In the form of
BrahMos missile, India has such a 'Brahmastra', which makes the whole world
tremble. This supersonic missile has been jointly developed by India and
Russia. Now a report has said that the India-Russia joint venture is planning
to start testing its new air-launched supersonic missile, 'BrahMos-MA' in the
next two years. What is the 'BrahMos-MA' missile? How much will it increase
India's military power? Let's find out.
According to
reports, BrahMos is a supersonic cruise missile of India. It has been made by
Russia and India's joint venture BrahMos Aerospace. Russian company NPO
Mashinostroeniya and the Government of India's Defense Research and Development
Organization (DRDO) work together to make the missile. The missile is used by
the Indian Air Force, Navy and Army.
According to
the Eurasian Times report, work on BrahMos-MA has not started yet. Earlier this
missile was being developed under the name BrahMos-NG. This development has
been going on for many years. Recently, BrahMos JV co-director Alexander
Makishchev announced the making of BrahMos-MA.
He said that
now we are working on the air-launched version of the missile. We are in the
phase of developing working design documentation. If everything goes well, we
will start testing the missile within two years. (Statement translated from
Russian to English and then to Hindi)
According to
the report, BrahMos-NG or BrahMos-MA will be a smaller version of the existing
BrahMos missile. The range of the new missile is estimated to be 290 kilometers.
It will be at least 3 meters shorter and 50 percent lighter than the recent
version of BrahMos. Its weight will be 1206 kg, whereas the currently available
BrahMos missile weighs about 2500 kg.
