According to the Eurasian Times report, work on BrahMos-MA has not started yet. Earlier this missile was being developed under the name BrahMos-NG. This development has been going on for many years. Recently, BrahMos JV co-director Alexander Makishchev announced the making of BrahMos-MA.

He said that now we are working on the air-launched version of the missile. We are in the phase of developing working design documentation. If everything goes well, we will start testing the missile within two years. (Statement translated from Russian to English and then to Hindi)

According to the report, BrahMos-NG or BrahMos-MA will be a smaller version of the existing BrahMos missile. The range of the new missile is estimated to be 290 kilometers. It will be at least 3 meters shorter and 50 percent lighter than the recent version of BrahMos. Its weight will be 1206 kg, whereas the currently available BrahMos missile weighs about 2500 kg.
