Prime Minister
Narendra Modi has his hand on the shoulder of Ukraine President Volodymyr
Zelensky... a picture of the devastation caused by the war is visible in
front... he has hugged Zelensky... the pain of war is visible on Zelensky's
face... these are the latest videos and pictures. PM Modi arrived on a visit to
Ukraine on Friday and met Zelensky there. In the pictures of PM Modi and
Zelensky, their cordial meeting, their body language convey many messages.
The pain of a
country suffering the horrors of a fierce war for more than two and a half
years and the consolation of the world's largest democratic country that has
always been in favor of peace... a triangle where Ukraine is on one corner, its
enemy Russia on the other and India, which is a very old friend of Russia and
which also has old relations with Ukraine, on the third.
PM Narendra
Modi visited Russia in July and now in August he has reached Ukraine. His
visits to both these countries are taking place at a time when the situation of
conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been going on for 10 years and the war
has been going on continuously since February 2022.
After reaching
the Ukrainian capital Kyiv on Friday, PM Modi hugged Zelensky. Earlier during
his visit to Russia, he had also hugged President Vladimir Putin. Regarding
these two incidents, both sides, including those countries which are standing
either in favor of Russia or Ukraine, may be interpreting them differently.
When PM Modi
hugged Putin in Russia, Zelensky also criticized it. Now when he consoled
Zelensky, what will be the reaction of Russia? At present, no statement has
come from Russia, but it is very possible that President Putin may not say
anything about this. The reason behind this is that the basis for PM Modi's
visit to Ukraine was prepared at the time when he was on a visit to Russia. PM
Modi's visit to Ukraine is not a surprise for Putin.
Even before PM
Modi's visit to Ukraine, media reports said that he could play the role of a
mediator for an agreement between Russia and Ukraine. The simple reason behind
this is that neither Russia nor Ukraine can have any doubt on India's
intentions. Russia does not have this trust in the affairs of Western
countries.

PM Modi had
said in Poland a day earlier that war can never be a solution to any problem.
It is expected that PM Modi will try to get Zelensky to agree to a ceasefire.
He can give important suggestions for a peaceful solution to end the dispute
between the two countries. India has deep trade relations with Russia and Ukraine.
India has been taking weapons from Russia for many decades. India has also been
taking cheap crude oil from Russia since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war
and the Israel-Hamas war and the increase in crude oil prices internationally.
On the other hand, there has been dynamism in the trade relations between India
and Ukraine for the last 25 years. There was a trade of $3.3 billion between
the two countries in the financial year 2021-22. During this period, trade
between Russia and India.
The Soviet
Union (USSR) disintegrated in 1991 and Ukraine became an independent nation.
After that, this is the first time that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting
Ukraine. India and Russia have deep relations since the tenure of Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru as Prime Minister after India's independence. Then Russia and Ukraine
were part of the Soviet Union. During that period, a long cold war continued
between the two superpowers of the world, Russia and America. Then India was
clearly considered to be in favor of Russia. But with the disintegration of the
Soviet Union and globalization, India's closeness to America also increased. In
the last ten years, PM Modi has spread the thread of India's relations with the
countries of the world very long. These are diplomatic, strategic, tactical,
trade relations which are the basis of the aspiration of shared development.
